At the young sprightly age of 23, Isono entered into Kaiba Corporations as a grunt, low level accounts manager- working under someone who was working under someone else who was working under somebody else. It wasn't that he liked violence and the idea of war, he absolutely did not. But it was the only place that would hire him with his diploma at that time and he needed the money. He never got very far in the company but he always worked hard. At the age of 25 he met his girlfriend, and at the age of 28 they wed.

When the pair hit 30, his wife became gravely ill. In an attempt to raise as much money as he could, Isono spent many, many sleepless nights at work. He didn't understand that what his wife wanted and needed was for him to call it quits at that sick company and just spend time with her. All he understood was that spending time at work to get money to pay for her treatments and medicine was the most loving thing he could provide. After five years of this things looked better, and the pair decided perhaps it was time for a child. They visited the Domino orphanage many times, but never could decide which child to choose. In just another year's time she became sick yet again and Isono set back to work with no reprieve.

On her death bed, Isono's wife took his hand and warned him, "Until you can find someone to care after and love with all your heart, you'll never understand life the way it's meant to be." This sentence chilled him to his core, realizing his mistakes. Just a year after that, a young Mokuba and Seto were taken into the care of Kaiba Gozaburo. 37, childless and widowed, Gozaburo decided to smile upon Isono's past work records and triumphs with a very small promotion (little did he even realize that there was no pay raise, not that it mattered anymore). Once in a great while he would have the means to see those two children the tycoon had adopted, and he felt so very much for them.

After the years the two siblings spent with Gozaburo, Isono tried to remain close, feeling there was probably a lot of darkness behind the scenes, but he never outed himself completely. He was often instructed by the young Seto to take Mokuba out on weekends and generally make sure that he wasn't home. Isono obliged to all of his wishes with a, "Yes, sir." every time. It was on one of these outings that Isono learned of Seto's love for the Blue Eyes White Dragon. After that day he spent a few good months tracking down one of those rare cards and ended up paying half his life savings to get it.

The day came when the business leader of the world was pronounced dead, and he met eyes with Kaiba Seto. He didn't care then if Seto had murdered his step-father. He never would. As the company was about to be torn down only to be rebuilt, he did the only thing he thought was right-

He pledged allegiance to its new and proudest owner, and somehow, whether by luck or scheme, was allowed into a very small circle of people. Whether it was because Seto needed an actual legal guardian for himself and Mokuba, Isono didn't know or care (and the first day Kaiba actually sat down in that new office, he had a surprise waiting for him on his desk; a pristine clear-wrapped Blue Eyes White Dragon card with no sender's name attached). He took on this very private arrangement with no qualms, and took on the task of becoming Kaiba's personal assistant. He proved himself time and time again in business skills, numbers, and planning. Over the years he gained what little of Seto's trust he could get, and he was happy with it. As caring for two people, tasked with keeping an eye on Mokuba (and keeping a private and quiet eye on Seto himself) became work too, he was finally able to realize what his wife had wanted for him. Just not in the way she had wanted it.

His life is work. He does what he is told without question (usually). He believes in Seto, Mokuba, and Kaiba Corporation. He wouldn't dream of leaving the three. There is no greater feeling in the world than getting well deserved and highly, extremely rare, praise from Seto-sama. He works when Seto does, which is all the time. He doesn't understand anymore what a day off is. If the young Kaiba Seto can work without breaks, so can he. He doesn't care for holidays anymore, only in that they bring the best sales. He is a family man at heart, just the family he is part of is very estranged, and probably doesn't see him the way he does they. He loves those two kids, whether he would ever say it or not. And until his death will continue to provide in any way they ask, whatever they need or want from him, just as he is supposed to.
